You should have gone and asked! Our back yard is full of mango trees.

i think they're apple mangoes. i've seen that here in the Phils. but they're green mangoes that turn reddish or purple. look at this one http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2095/2535298119_fa975e632c.jpg
.maybe that's what you saw. they kinda taste like indian mangoes but with a slightly weird aftertaste.
We have purple mangagoes in Mangalore... Mangalore is for Mangoes
