from an hour to fifteen

The biggest change one experiences after moving to the island is that life is at a slower pace than before. No longer having to suffer through one hour (one way) commute on the subway but now breezing through a fifteen minute morning commute is just a breath of fresh air. And it really makes all the difference. Instead of catching a few winks on the subway, we have the comfort of our bed to indulge in that extra half hour of sleep in the morning, which would be welcomed by anyone. Suddenly, there's more time for everything else too. Dinner is ready earlier and there's even time to hit the beach, if one's in the mood. Sure we give up a few things when we assimilate ourselves into the island lifestyle, but there's things we gain as well. There's always a balance, if you know where to look for it.

Ha, speak for yourself. I was lucky to spend over 2.5 hours in the car the other day (coming from the West). Of course that was as a result of the Belco Pole being down on Harbour road. The next day a car was overturned further up, but I had moved early enough to avoid that. But my commute is quite regularly 1 hour into town. Location location location!

east is best for the daily communte. all the traffic problems are on the west side of the island.

when I lived in st georges, it took me 30 minutes to ride into hamilton. the same distance traveled from the west end of the island would take twice as long.

my advice is avoid the congestion by moving to smiths parish.

What I wouldn't give for that beautiful beach right now! I visit because I love your pictures so much! And I can at least HEAR about the beach...

I don't know about the extra time to enjoy oneself here.

Our commute is only 15-20 minutes, morning & evening, but we are hard pressed to find any spare time ... we (wife, kids & myself) are busier/working more than we did back in Vancouver.

We are still wondering if it was a good idea to move here.

Richard: Yes I do agree about moving to Smiths to avoid traffic...

BB: Well come on over. Jet Blue has super cheap flights to Bda!

Captn Canuck: Ahh yes, if one has kids then it's a different story. You're going to be busy anywhere you go. I should have mentioned that. But don't you kids love it here, altho I have heard that Vancouver is beautiful.

I just came across your blog. Congrats on relocating to an island paradise. It looks beautiful there. Question though, have you felt land-locked yet? I don't know if I can handle living on a little island out in the Atlantic. Also, is it expensive in Bermuda? Just wondering.

Roth: Bermuda is one of the most expensive islands to live on. What am I say, it is the most expensive one to live on. On average, it costs FOUR times more that what it would in America!
